    Cranks but won't start

To recap recent events... the motor was running decent but had the roughness that kind of showed in the video. I took it for a drive up and down the street and it ran the same in first gear and not under load. The first time I accelerated hard the motor misfired way worse, like it does now...

Got the injectors in. Still runs like shite! Yippee. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the way to check pressure but... WTH.

I was glad to see bad numbers. I have plans tonight and almost feel like canceling just to test the injectors in the car. :)

Leakdown test is good. Waiting on injectors.

    Cranks but won't start

Injectors are being sent out today so I guess I'll do a leakdown test in the meantime. I'd be shocked if the timing belt slipped. I know the tension was correct and I didn't accelerate/shift really hard, just "spirited".

I am in 100% agreement. I already checked out RC to see how it works and will pull the injectors this week if I get time. I've been putting in 1000sqft of flooring in my house and it's been brutal on me. Anyway, I started the motor just now at lunch and it started but acted like it was out...

Okay, I'll check for codes. It was up to temp or close when I pulled out of the shop. Not sure.

    Cranks but won't start

Finally drove the car (with a dealer plate). Drove in first gear up and down the street fine, flat spotted tires made it harder to tell how the motor was running but it seemed close to normal smoothness but not quite. Got on it fairly hard and shifted into second and motor started running...

    Ignition coil replacement?

I need one coil for testing my 91 and Amayama shows a replacement for the original. The part number seems to also be for a Legend? What are you guys buying these days? Edit: Found some info on the coils. I may just replace all six since the ones on the motor may be original. No history...

    Cranks but won't start

Right, it's more running rough than a misfire in the sense that there's no rhythm to it like one cylinder not working like the rest. Maybe there's more than one problem, but it feels like the rough running is related to the vibration it makes throughout the car. An exhaust video doesn't help...

    Cranks but won't start

The noise is to show the rough running. The noise doesn't bother me, and the exhaust is loud anyway, just trying to show the misfiring. It vibrates the car. It's not normal compared to how it ran in the past but since it's not registered yet I can't put it under load to see how bad it is...

    Cranks but won't start

It's been a minute... I finally found some time to mess with the car. The timing marks are dead on. Pulley mark and all the cam marks. Fuel injector screens are perfectly clean but I did not have the injectors rebuilt (yet). No signs of fuel issues as far as contamination. New plugs and...

    Cranks but won't start

I didn't mention it, but I did check them and they were all within spec to my surprise. The car/motor has 180k on it and I only put 4k on it before it was parked so I don't know the maintenance history. I belive it was maintained by Shad at Driving Ambition. I bought the car from a...

Put a vacuum gauge on it and it was rock steady. Made my day. All that's left now is taking the covers off and setting the TB belt tension one last time. The interior is still gutted but I'm ready to paint the top so it shouldn't take long now.

I always forget about checking vacuum for internal problems. I use a smoke machine all the time though. :)

"Smoothly" is questionable but I'm just not sure. It starts immediately, revs quickly, but seems rougher then I remember but that was 12 years ago. I had a friend come over who had an NSX up till a few years ago and he said it definitely doesn't have a misfire but did seem rougher than...

BTW, would an OBD1 show a misfire if a valve was damaged? I didn't see a misfire code on the list in the manual and I haven't worked on an OBD1 car in quite a while. I figure it wouldn't show a specific cylinder but maybe a misfire or an 02 sensor out of range.

Yeah, when I put the belt on I followed the tensioning procedure but ended up tightening based on what seemed right, which ended up like you explained. The belt seemed too loose by just using the tensioner. I'll take the covers off and start over. Bah. I have the car on the ground in my...

The latest... TB was realigned on the front intake gear to the correct 1 mark. All marks line up perfectly with "white" crank mark lined up with pointer on cover. My pulley doesn't have any colors left on the marks but the TDC mark is easy to figure out. Compression is 170-177 on all...

    Cranks but won't start

Compression is 170-177 across all cylinders and that was after sitting for 12 years. Engine runs good. Not sure why the TB tension would be questioned because the gear was positioned wrong, unless you're suggesting since I made one mistake I've made more. I do question how accurate the TB...

    Cranks but won't start

SOLVED. And I feel embarrassed and lucky. I tested for spark through a plug and it worked so I decided to take the valve covers off and double check the cam gear positions. Somehow I managed to line up the front intake gear on the 2 with the arrow instead of the 1 with the line. I still...

I can't thank you guys enough for the time and expertise you're giving. Where I work we sell repairable vehicles that we buy at auction. I'm a Buyer but help oversee the shop. Our mechanics spend a lot of their time diagnosing odd problems since most have collision damage. A tried and true...

    Cranks but won't start

Engine ran good prior to TB service, but 12 years ago. I checked alignment marks multiple times during and again after replacement. Fresh gas. Lines clean. New plugs. But I'm second guessing everything now. I've been doing everything by myself so I need to get a helper to check spark...
