NSX-R conversion thread!!!

lankstarr, good point. I never understood either about the US spec makers, on the JDM nsx-r conversion. I think myself and serialnsxer are the only replicas on here with the correct front and rear JDM fenders. Frank

Great thread guys... some lovely examples

Only one has JDM fenders though... IMO the reflectors inthe US NSXs totaly spoil the look. How come you've all spent so much on modifying to get your cars looking R-esque but failed to remove the butt ugly reflectors!?

If I was spending they'd be the first to go and could be filled I believe before you had a respray.

Lovely examples and I'm not trying to take anything away... maybe I'm missing some legal issues but I'm just curious!

Mine are GONE!

So, I'm doing something a little bit different. I'm doing an NA1 NSX Type R clone. I just got the Enkei wheels (Going with RE11's) from a fellow Primer but I'll be needing some advice and help from you guys sourcing the other parts. This is going to be a long term project as cash flow and parts availability allow.
I haven't mounted the wheels yet, so no pictures quite yet but this is what I'm starting with. My 1992 GPW.

nsxitr4.jpg

I've done some basic weight reduction (but am keeping any and all parts that I've removed in case I ever want to return the car to OEM) and have deleted the tools from the trunk, spare tire, spare tire mount, cd changer and mounting bracket for a whopping 60 lbs lost and the car handles so much better just from taking that spare out it's unreal.

Here are the planned mods:
NSX-R CF Stereo Delete Panel
Replacement Lugnuts (need these asap)
NA2 NSX Alluminum Bumper Beam Rear (anyone have one for sale?)
Replace to lighter Battery
NSX-R Front Sway Bar
NSX-R Front And Rear Chassis Bar
NA1 NSX-R Suspension (Is this the same as Type S Zero?)
NSX-R Mesh Engine Cover
NA1 NSX-R Red Honda Badges
NA1 NSX-R Valve Cover Plate (Is this an identical fit?)
NA1 NSX-R Tail Light Centerpiece
NSX-R Coolant Tank Cover

Here is the weight reduction program it's going on.

Numbers represent weight reduced.

Front

AC compressor : 7.3kg / 16lbs
AC intercoolers : 7kg / 15.5lbs
AC condenser + pipes : 2.9kg / 6.4lbs
remove oem stereo headunit and fill the hole with something 4
remove door speakers 8.8
remove passenger footwell sub 1.4
center speaker ?
Switching battery will delete approx 20 lbs. (There is a tremendously heavy Canadian Tire battery in there now.)
Spare Tire + Bracket 32.4 lbs
Adding NSX-R front sway bar (not sure of weight)
Adding NSX-R front chassis bar (not sure of weight)

Front Total
101.1

Rear

CD player and brackets 11lbs
Engine Cover 15 lbs
All Tools Including Jack 17 lbs
Sound deadening behind seats 10 lbs.
Add mesh cover + 2 lbs
TCS Removal is 3.2 lbs
Cruise Control Removal is 3.8 lbs.
Antenna 2.1 lbs
Switch to Alluminum Bumper Guard. The oem alluminum one weighs 16.22 lbs
Trunk carpet 7
Adding NSX-R rear chassis bar (not sure of weight)

Estimated Rear Total 84 lbs reduced

Unsprung and Corner Weight

NA1 NSX Type R Wheels 9lbs
switching to nsx-r shocks and springs is 6.3 lbs lost.

Total weight reduction = 200.4
Estimated Weight = 2775.6

Still not quite 2712 but I like the interior the way it is.

I like what you're doing!!!

I'm envious of your weight reduction program, but I still want to be comfortable in my NSX. So I'm taking a somewhat different approach.

Great thread...thanks for the info!

Re: My 09 refresh

Hi Paul, any updates on your car? How's the vinyl holding up? Thx

The wrap has been on since May 2009 ... I only intended to keep it for a year! For 95% it has held up really well. Unless told, people still think it is white paint. I've applied several coats of wax over the 2 1/2 yrs so it beads really well when wet. Its made upkeep reallu easy as you truly do not take that much care when washing compared to the paint finish.

The areas that are now showing sins of wear are the intricate curves to the front bumper and around the lower edges of the mirrors. Apart from these areas, the rest is still 100%.

I'm toying with removing it over the winter and bringing out the Magnum again ... unless another colour takes my fancy ...

Attached is a photo from a couple of months back ...

regards, Paul

Thread revival! Where are you guys getting your OEM NSX-R parts? I've only seen a couple of sites.

Also, does the NSX-R steering wheel require a "special" hub or does it just bolt right up to stock?

Since we're doing a thread revival here's an updated pic of mine.

I can't speak for the others but I've ordered my parts from A.S. Motorsports they are a vendor here; as well as Science Of Speed and from users here in the For Sale section. Honda has stopped producing a lot of the NSX R pieces!!
The mesh engine cover and the stereo delete plate can no longer be ordered.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of my 2002 White NSX-R conversion? I found extra parts for the owner.

Carfax shows my previous NSX-R (re-creation) was serviced last year at Eisinger Honda, Kalispell, MT. Anyone close to this area, or seen the white car around? Thankfully someone seems to be driving it at least a thousand miles a year. Good to know. If anyone knows the service manager at Honda, or even the current owner of the vehicle, please PM me.
